God of War

 I’m a Christian.

I’m not a good one by my standards (which are much lower than God’s), but I am one, nonetheless.

...and I haven’t always been one. My salvation was what I would call a “violent” one, and not because I was in prison, or about to hang, or what have you; I call it “violent” in the sense of the rapid and instant change of direction of my life, and the events that followed.

This is not a story about that.

As a Christian I’ve been to many churches and naturally spent time among the other Believers, and I’ve always thought that the God we all discuss has been twisted into the long-haired hippy Flower Child, and it has always left me sad and agitated. Today people discuss the Savior as a buddy, a companion, a meek ole pal and eternal doormat. Christians have been what I refer to as “pussified,” like I refer to today’s men, but I know better.

My God is a God of War.

“Oh MY! How can you say that?!?!? That’s so...VIOLENT!

Why, yes it is, and here are some supporting references:
  • Jericho. Joshua and his men felled the walls by blowing trumpets (God naturally took the walls down), and then slaughtered everything in the city- men, women, children, sheep, cattle- everything.
  • Jesus and the moneychangers. Read carefully: He fashioned a whip. There wasn’t one lying around that He found; He stepped back, took the time to fashion a weapon, and used it. Oh, and overturned the tables.
  • Korah’s clan swallowed up in the desert. God opened up the ground and swallowed up Korah’s band of about 250 leaders who turned on Moses after fleeing Egypt.

Let’s not forget Hell, the place set aside for those who don’t listen to Him and accept His offer of salvation.

I could go on for a while, but I think I made the point.

We, as Christians, are to stand strong against evil, cast out demons, and represent Christ on this planet. In no way do we stand aside and let the immoral destroy the family, take our children, and destroy our God-given country, or the planet. Believers understand that this world is not ours, but we cannot stand idly by and await Christ’s coming.
